Review: JUNPAKU SENKA White Beauty Serum

Review JUNPAKU SENKA White Beauty Serum
I’ve just found an unpublished review of the Junpaku Senka White Beauty Serum in my drafts folder. I can’t think of a reason for this not making it into the wider world. Obviously, I meant to finish the post up and publish it but then got distracted.

Here are my original notes from late 2019.

“This is – unusually – an incredibly rich serum. Most serums have a lightweight texture whereas this one is a cream. Even without a moisturiser layered on top, I can feel the moisturising effects hours after application. Skin feels soft, supple, and plump. I’d tentatively say that oily skin would probably find it too moisturising.

JUNPAKU SENKA’s White Beauty Serum has been designed to target dark brown spots, dryness, rough skin, and textured pores. It uses tranexamic acid as a key ingredient, a mainstay skincare ingredient in Japan for nearly 2 decades even though it’s new in the West. It has been shown to work in a number of different ways to help prevent pigmentation. More importantly, it reduces the inflammatory response that UV exposure causes that leads to the skin producing pigment.

Though I don’t have any dark spots to get rid of, I have been spending more time than usual outside in the cold and my skin looks very nicely even in tone rather than red and flaky around the nose. I do think this serum is more helpful and promising for fading skin redness than pigment. This hasn’t made a visible difference to mid-brown blemish marks but it does fade the redness. Tranexamic acid products in general have never made any discernible improvements to my mum’s age spots either.

There’re lots of other (arguably more effective) ingredients that can help fade discolouration, but there’s a severe lack of options for redness. Since tranexamic acid is anti-inflammatory and actually acts on blood vessels (as well as pigment), it’s an excellent option for post-inflammatory redness. I think it’s best working in tandem with other dark-spot-targeting ingredients than on its own.”

You can find the Junpaku Senka White Beauty Serum at Amazon Japan — it’s ¥873. It’s also available from the Hong Kong-based Stylevana. This (and other products that solely rely on tranexamic acid) wouldn’t be my first choice for targeting existing discolouration, but I do quite enjoy using it as an inflammation-fighting moisturiser. I’d say it’s a nice budget option for reducing redness and helping to prevent pigmentation triggered by inflammation.
