SKIN AQUA UV Super Moisture Essence is a Japanese hydrating sunscreen.
The newly revamped Japanese sunscreen has a richย serum texture and it better keeps skin hydrated than its predecessor released in 2020. - For face and body.
- Very resistant to waterย andย sweat (80 minutes).
- Can be used as a makeup base.

Why do most Japanese sunscreen still prefer Octinoxate? Iโve read some reviews that itโs unstable and will worsen when combined with Zinc oxide or Titanium Dioxide.
Untrue. Octinoxate and the filters in Japanese sunscreens, physical or otherwise, donโt break each other down.
Inherently unstable UV filters (e.g. Avobenzone) can actually be surface-treated or encapsulated to prevent undesirable interactions so itโs not always true that this or that cannot be used together ๏ผ it depends on the formula.
I just got this. Is the tube supposed to have a silver seam on the back of the tube? I thought the tube would be all white, but mine has a silver seam running down the back.
This exact product is all white โ no silver seam. The Gold formula has a silver seam on the right of the back.
How does this compare to Super Moisture Essence Gold? Looks like this uses an additional Uvinul filter. Are Gold versions of sunscreens generally superior to their non-Gold counterparts?
Iโm visiting Tokyo next week from the States and have Anessa Perfect UV Skincare Milk (and Gel), Canmake Mermaid Gel UV, and both Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Essence & the Gel on my radar.
The main difference between the regular line and the Gold is that the latter is formulated to stay put better on the skin in high humidity (not that it somehow has higher or better UV protection). Both are for day-to-day activities only.
If you donโt go to Japan frequently, Iโd personally advise against hauling Canmake, Skin Aqua, or other similar brands to bring back home. It seems like a waste of opportunity and luggage space to buy products you can easily buy online for roughly the same RRP.
Would you be kind enough to give a link to the Japanese version ?
Hey, can I get a link to where I can read the new rules & regulations for Japanese cosmetics, especially for JP sunscreens ?
There arenโt any new regulations for Japanese cosmetics ๏ผ nothing has been changed. I will only refer people to official information, which currently are in Japanese only.
The only thing new is the implementation of the star โ system for water-resistant sunscreens, which is already explained above (just click on the purple info icon on top). I donโt think thereโs anything more to be said about it since itโs so straightforward already ๏ผ โ is 40 min, โโ is 80 min. Many sunscreens (e.g. Anessa, Allie, Biore) have printed minutes of water resistance on the packages for years.
I noticed the new star rating system thingโ very handy. Does the PA value also stay at 50% or greater or just the SPF?
Itโs based on ISO 18861:2020 which evaluates SPF only.
