SKIN AQUA UV Super Moisture Gel is a Japanese hydrating sunscreen gel.

The newly revamped sunscreen gel has a refreshing, water-light texture and it better keeps skin hydrated than its predecessor released in 2020. New silica-encapsulated UV filter with Rohto’s UV Light Durability Technology gives skin more uniform UV protection while reducing the risk of irritations. 3 types of hyaluronic acid deeply replenish skin with moisture.

Ideally suited for everyday activities, the Japanese sunscreen gel forms an invisible UV-protective veil over the skin while preventing PM2.5 particles, pollen, and other airborne pollutants from clinging to the skin. It leaves the skin feeling fresh and hydrated with no sticky or greasy residue.

  • For face and body.
  • Very resistant to water and sweat (80 minutes).
  • Can be used as a makeup base.
  • Removable with face wash or body soap.

18 Comments on SKIN AQUA UV Super Moisture Gel (2023 Formula)

  1. Great posts!! Thank you for your work! I love the 2020 Skin Aqua Gel, the alchool in it is great for my oily skin and I could reapply it without feeling sticky or shiny. The new version I think it’s more shiny and little bit heavier. Do you know if this version is discontinued everywhere or if it’s just in some countries? Also, please do you know a good replacement for the old 2020 skin aqua? One transparent and good for my oily skin?

    Thank you a lot,

  2. Were there many changes in terms of the ingredients? Other than adding another UV filter? I cannot tell if this sunscreen is breaking me out because the previous version gave me no issues 🙁

  3. Do you happen to know if the 2020 version will be discontinued for good? I loved the 2020 version because it was the only sunscreen that didn’t burn my eyes but the 2023 version stung really bad but im not sure why. I might have to find a new sunscreen.

  4. I know there was some controversy about the 2020 version not meeting SPF and PA ratings in independent testing. Are reformulations retested for SPF and PA, or do they simply get grandfathered in under the old formulation’s spf and PA ratings? In other words, was this 2023 reformulation tested for its specific SPF and PA rating? Thanks!

    • The Hong Kong Consumer Council testing caused quite a stir online a few years back. It’s essential to keep in mind that just because a third-party conducts testing doesn’t automatically make them more reliable or trustworthy. I actually discussed this topic in more detail in one of my previous blog posts, which you can check out here:

It’s also worth noting that the testing wasn’t for this product. They tested the Chinese version, which has a different formula produced by a subsidiary company in China.

In Japan, where this product is from, there are strict regulations that require mandatory in-vivo testing using ISO 24444 & ISO 24442 methods for all finalised products with sun protection labels. Each version and formula is tested separately, so there’s no chance that a sunscreen can be released into the market using test results from a different formula.

  5. I am so happy about the added UV filter. But I think they added an ester. And now, I don’t know if my fungal acne prone face will still be okay with it [2023 version].

  6. How do i know I received the 2023 version? I do see the writing design is a little different on the front of the bottle but I otherwise don’t see a date or anything

      • I bought it on Amazon Japan via your link. I just received it earlier today. Here’s a link to some side by side pics of the back and the front. The packaging design is in fact slightly updated. Maybe soon I’ll learn the Japanese characters for Uvinul A Plus because I can’t read any of the ingredients lol. I’ll be sure to contribute a review to this page. Thank you!

        • While new and old packaging designs do look similar, there’re plenty of visual differences to easily and quickly tell them apart (esp. for Japanese). The addition of the star ratings aside, the outer plastic pouch have completely different text labels - they’re in different colours and say different things.

          • I’m excited to start using it and comparing it to the 2020 version! I’m actually about to finish my bottle of the 2020 version, so the timing was perfect. Thanks so much for all this helpful info and advice

  7. Is there any buzz if the Gold version will be reformulated this 2023? If not, do you think that the Gold version (2020 release) will be discontinued this 2023 as well due to the “shorter lifespan of Japanese products”? Thank you!

  8. Thank you for the updates! I know it’s not super-popular in Japan, but Skin Aqua has become my favorite daily body sunscreen. I’ve been using it since the late 2010s and hope they don’t discontinue the line entirely.
