Review: InviCible Scars

InviCible Scars

There’re lots of products out there claiming to reduce hyperpigmentation, various marks, and scars. I don’t suffer from hyperpigmentation, but I used to find that after every blemish, I’d get a deep red mark that would linger for months. Now I say “used to find” because I no longer have such problem — the regular use AHA and BHA (I use NeoStrata Toning Solution Level 2, see my review here) seem to keep most of the blemishes at bay. If there are marks after the odd blemish has disappeared, they fade quickly as well.

Fading serums and treatments won’t do much good if you’re not doing anything to prevent more dark spots from developing and prevent the existing ones from getting any worse.
Personally, I think that one of the most important things to bear in mind when dealing with hyperpigmentation is that you need to find the root cause; otherwise, you’re just running in circles. Fading serums and treatments won’t do much good if you’re not doing anything to prevent more dark spots from developing and prevent the existing ones from getting any worse. So a good high UV protection sunscreen (to protect skin and prevent spots from darkening) and a preventative treatment (to target whatever is causing those dark spots) is essential.

InviCible Scars is described as an “Advanced Treatment for Scars and Dark Spots” and it caught my interest not because of what it contains (or what it claims to do) but what it doesn’t have,  which is quite a lot of things. It’s a silicone base vitamin C cream and it only contains 8 ingredients: 2 silicones, 2 forms of vitamin C, 2 types of oils (sunflower and safflower seeds), and 2 extracts (aloe vera and licorice). That’s it. I’ve come to expect mile-long ingredient list with “advanced” anything so its formula is unexpectedly simple and inert.

I think this offers quite a comprehensive yet very gentle solution if you’re looking to prevent wounds from scarring or if you’re trying to fade minor dark marks, perhaps at the same time. It has the silicone formulation of scar treatment gels and sheets but with oil-soluble vitamin C (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate) added to help fade scars and skin-soothing extracts thrown in for good measure. I dare say that this is the most sensitive skin-friendly scars and spot treatments that I have come across — it can be used after surgery or after skin resurfacing treatments!

It has a very silky finish that is not heavy or greasy in the slightest — very similar to makeup primers with silicone as their first ingredient. One pump doesn’t look like much but a little amount of the silicone cream goes a very long way. I strongly advise to keep layering products over at a minimum as its silicone base essentially acts as barrier, preventing active ingredients in your other products from fully absorbing into the skin. I have been layering liquid-y skin care products (i.e. Japanese lotions and liquid skin treatments) under InviCible Scars and it works marvellously. There’re tons of testimonials on its website (see here) — I can’t really add my own as I don’t have scars that need treating — it does get rid of red mark from recent blemish quite well though. On a side note, this makes a great (Asian) BB cream primer (I don’t use regular foundations)!

Its formulation is simple yet effective for preventing scarring. If you have very reactive skin or want to tackle scars and hyperpigmentation in one step, then this skin treatment will set you off in the right direction. It costs $39.95 USD for 15ml or $69.95 USD for 30ml from InviCibleScars.com.
