Skincare Snapshot, May 2019

Temperature is hovering in the upper 20s C so I’ve been keeping layering minimal in the morning to keep skin feeling fresh and comfortable.

Bifesta Foaming Whip Bright Up

Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner (with a trigger spray nozzle attachment from Muji): It costs less than ¥500 for a big half-litre bottle in Japan so I spritz this generously on my face and body as a skin refresher in the summer.

Paula’s Choice Clinical Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturiser: This moisturiser is an all-round powerhouse — it’s packed full of scientifically proven ingredients, including several types of vitamin C and ceramides. I like it on mornings when I want to keep layering at the most minimal.

Paula’s Choice C15 Super Booster (on nights I’m not using Azclear & Retin-A)

Paula’s Choice Clinical Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturiser (on nights I’m not using Azclear & Retin-A)

Azclear Action 20% Azelaic Acid Medicated Lotion (every other night): I don’t have blemishes nor rosacea to treat (what azelaic acid is often used to treat), so I’m interested in its other benefits — Paula’s Choice has a good informative article on it.

Retin-A 0.025% Gel (every other night after Azclear): I apply this after the Azclear since it pills if I do the reverse.

Curel Intensive Moisture Cream (on nights I’m using Azclear & Retin-A): The moisturiser equivalent of a plain Uniqlo t-shirt. I prefer a very basic but well-formulated moisturiser when I’m using potent serums and treatments. This one from Curel is a cult-favourite in Japan and also one of my favourites.

Would you consider doing a spotlight post on Retin A taking about your experiences? (Any purging, irritation, how you cobatted it, thoughts about it etc)

I’m afraid there wouldn’t be much for me to say in the post because I’m not using it to treat any existing skin issues. It’ll take longterm usage (i.e. years) to reap its anti-ageing benefits. There was nothing for me to combat because just like I expected, I didn’t experience any side effects with it at all.

Hi – would you happen to know of PlazaJapan as reputable site for buying Japanese Sunscreen etc? As always, appreciate the effort you spend on this site). Thanks
