11 Comments on MENTURM Sun Bears Strong Super Plus

  1. What are your thoughts on ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate as an ingredient in sunscreens? cosdna.com rates it 6/9 for safety. I read about its potentially harmful effects, but not sure what to believe.

    • I personally don’t use CosDNA.

There’s only circumstantial evidence that it disrupting hormones at high doses, significantly more than you’d get from anything topical. Personally, it doesn’t concern me at all.

  2. I had to move on from this. It takes forever to dry on my skin and it just didn’t provide enough sun protection for me even when measuring out 1/4 tsp and reapplying regularly. Maybe because the highest amount of sun filter is nano zinc oxide. My skin is very sun sensitive and I have not had good experiences with nano physical sunscreens. I’d rather just use a chemical formula.

  3. How long does it last for? I’m looking for a good sunscreen to wear while I go running, and I sweat. A lot.

    • It has a dry finish and it’s water and sweat-resistant so it won’t come sliding off, but you’d still need to reapply after sweating heavily.

  4. The way it is written in Japanese is ambiguous so it really could be either. A cleansing foam that has a bit of “omph” in cleansing does the job just fine for me.

I’d take everything writtening on eBay and Amazon with huge grain of salt, especially with Asian beauty products…. in my experience, the description are rarely correct! Personally, I think this sunscreen isn’t suitable for anyone with dry skin… it looks matte and feels quite dry despite the lack of alcohol.

  5. This is such a great price! Have you liked previous formulations of this sunscreen?

    • I haven’t tried this one but I didn’t like its previous formulas for the face — they left a filmy white residue and quite drying, despite being alcohol-free. They’re decent enough for the body and hands when discounted though.

      • I love this sunscreen! I live in the US (Florida) where it is almost always sunny, warm and humid, so sunscreen is a must here year-round! Recently, I was out of doors of a for a long day of activity. The sun was very strong and getting a sunburn was practically guaranteed. I applied this sunscreen in the morning and despite not reapplying, I am pleased to report that I was not in the least bit sunburned. I attribute this to wearing Sun Bears (2013 formulation) and a good hat! Sun Bears is light weight, easy to apply and does not irritate my sensitive skin.
