Biore UV Aqua Rich Light Up Essence is a Japanese skin-brightening sunscreen for daily use.
The water-light sunscreen features Biore’s “Micro Defense” formula with encapsulated UV filters dispersed in micro-aqua capsules and new Visible Light Control Technology that forms a microfine, light-diffusing “outerskin” barrier that protects against dullness, UV damage, pollen, and PM2.5 pollutants while giving skin a soft-focus radiance. Hyaluronic acid, royal jelly, and butylene glycol keep skin moisturised.
Untinted and won’t leave stains on clothes, it protects against daily casual UV exposure without leaving a sticky or unnatural white residue. Skin feels and looks smooth and bright. Suitable for all skin tones. Ideal for video conferencing, no-foundation days under masks, and quick runs to the store.
- For face and body.
- Resistant to water, sweat, and sebum (40 minutes).
- Can be used as a makeup base.
- Removable with usual face or body cleansers.

is this comedogenic?
“Non-comedogenic” and “non-acnegenic” are just meaningless marketing terms. They’re not regulated at all. No one will be able to tell you whether a product will cause your skin any problems. It’s completely individual.
Oh, okay thank you
I wish it was fragrance free. Is a sunscreen similar to it (water light and non sticky sunscreen) but fragrance free?
I really wanted to test these new releases of Japanese sunscreens, but with the recent controversy involving SPF testing I am very skeptical and unsure about it. Aqua Rich did well in tests related to UVB, but not as good with UVA. Kosé Suncut was a ridiculous total disappointment. Unfortunately I will have to wait for new tests, if they will ever make of these new sunscreens. Until then, unfortunately I will have to go back to my La Roche Posay.
Hi Matt, could you advise where I can find these tests, you’re taking about (or a link please). I’m really interested in reading more about it!
It’s the testing conducted by the Hong Kong Consumer Council which they do annually. I’m not 100% convinced with their result of Anessa because they tested the old version and IMO the new reformulation is much better and stronger now. In terms of the UVAPF of Bioré Watery Essence, it’s sad but I never really prefer to use it since I lean more towards the milk types which are more durable than essences and have more oil control properties since I have very oil face.
