Review: Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery BB SPF50+ PA++++ [DISCONTINUED]

Review Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery BB SPF50+ PA++++

I’ve been making an effort, recently, to try to write more reviews and also incorporate more photos when I review products. It’s hard to do this for every product that lands on my desk, but I do want to shake things up a bit. There are certain launches that end up catching my attention more than others, and one of them is the revamp of the Biore sunscreens this year.

The Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery BB is one of the products in the Aqua Rich range that has been upgraded with the new PA++++ formula. I have tried zillions of these BB things now — there’s no hard and fast rule about what they do, apart from the fact that they should even out or correct the skin complexion and contain some additional functions or features (like hiding pores or having good skincare ingredients). ‘Should’ being the operative word here. I’m not overly enamoured with Japanese (and Western) BB products (I really like Korean BB creams) — ‘BB’ is a just fancier term for tinted.

Press release says this is a skin tone correcting sunscreen cream, and there is no doubt that its UV protection is excellent — afterall, it carries PA++++ rating (that’s PPD 16+), and it uses a mixture of physical and chemical UV filters that are quite stable. The cream is water-based, so incredibly light and fresh on the skin. It sets quickly to give a matte-to-the-touch finish that speckles with beige opalescence. It does little in giving my combination to dry skin a moisture boost, but my skin doesn’t feel dry or tight.

It says to even skin tone and hide visible pores, but I see no difference whatsoever. Its tiny shimmers give the skin a slight light-diffusing, luminous effect that takes the edge off when it comes to dull, tired-looking skin. It is absolutely perfect for using beneath makeup (or in my case, a Korean BB cream), as the silicones provide a perfectly silky smooth base with a velvet (matte, but not drying) finish.

On the BB front, this is a bit of a let-down — there is zero coverage despite its beige tint, but this does deliver a welcome boost of UVA protection (to better protect skin against skin-ageing UVA rays) in an easy-to-wear, fresh feeling base that is perfect for spring.

The Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery BB SPF50+ PA++++ is 33g and its RRP is ¥800.
