Best Pick: Hada-Labo BB Moist Cream

I have been using this BB cream almost on a daily basis for about a month since its launch earlier this year. That is almost unheard of for me — usually, I’m experimenting, changing, testing out new releases, finding faults with the old products. I can’t find much of a fault with Rohto’s latest product, Hada-Labo BB Moist Cream SPF32 PA+++, a Japanese BB cream.

This Japanese BB cream gives a light tint of colour on the skin that can be built up for more coverage without cakiness. Although there is no actual sheen or ‘glow’ in the finish, it doesn’t look powdery or matte, it just leaves my skin looking perfect! I use the lighter of the 2 shades available, and it’s an excellent match for my light peachy skin tone.

Even though this is labelled as a makeup base/foundation on the tube, I have been using this on its own — no serum, no moisturiser, no sunscreen, nothing — it is supposed to be multi-functional, after all. It blends easily and even out skin tone well. I just gently tap a little extra onto areas that need a little more coverage. If you have acne to cover, you will still need a concealer.

The formulation feels lovely on my slight combination skin. It offers just the right amount of moisture for the skin to feel comfortable and ease drier areas, yet without the heaviness and greasiness associated with typical creams. It says it feels light and comfortable on the skin — that is certainly true! No mid-day shininess even without setting with powder.

I especially love that it contains high UV protection with Tinosorb S as being one of its filters! While I wouldn’t be sitting under the sun with this on, it’s protective enough for normal urban use. No detectable scent either.

If you have oily skin or a very light (or dark) skin tone, best to give this a pass—after all, it is cream and the shade is designed to suit typical Japanese skin tone… But for those with drier skin and want to speed up your morning routine, or simply want an inexpensive BB cream with high UV protection that doesn’t feel greasy, I’d recommend giving this a try!

The Hada-Labo BB Moist Cream‘s RRP is ¥1,300 for 45g in Japan.
