Best Pick: Point Magic PRO Pressed Powder UV

I’ve mentioned this Point Magic PRO Pressed Powder UV by Kokuryudo before in my 2016’s Sunscreen Top Picks, but it deserves a full post. There’re many lovely face powders from budget brands, but most of them are very lacking on the design front. While they still have mirrors in the cases (Japanese ones always do), you certainly don’t tend to get beautifully decorated compacts like the embossed one in the photo above. So I very much enjoy having a compact with amazing packaging in my makeup bag that I feel glad to whip out in public for an impromptu touch-up.

The powder compact is… compact  — its pan is just 6.3g.

I think that this is an absolute must-have if you need to reapply powder during the day. It’s a very fine, ultra-lightweight face powder that takes away excess unwanted shine and leaves a faint blur on the surface of my skin without turning it into something resembling a half-baked flaky pastry. It absorbs oil and gives a hint of colour but never, ever goes cakey on me. Rather than simply sticking to whatever base I have on, it fixes makeup and leaves a light veil, your-skin-but-better finish. The SPF50+ PA++++ rating is the icing on the cake.

You can apply it using a soft, fluffy brush — a quick sweep over the forehead and nose, a touch to the chin. But I prefer to use the included puff since I usually take it out with me. You just want to make sure that you apply with a light hand. And if you were reapplying it during the day, you’d want to blot away any excess sebum first, because powdering over greasy, oily skin will end up looking chalky and unnatural.

Shade “02 Medium Beige”, which is about the same as MAC Mineralize Loose Foundation in “Light Plus”. (Photo was taken in natural daylight.)

I use shade “02 Medium Beige” (which is the “standard” shade) in the Point Magic PRO Pressed Powder UV SPF50+ PA++++ and that suits my light warm complexion perfectly. Though it’s pretty forgiving, actually, if you’re light-handed. A  lighter (01) and a dark shade (03) are also available. This piece of eye candy is just perfect for quick touch-ups during the day. I only wish refills are available.

You can find all 3 shades at Amazon Japan 01 / 02 / 03 — it’s ¥980 (international shipping via AmazonGlobal). Amazon.com (US) also have it HERE for US$12.45+.
