Best Pick: Paula’s Choice Resist BHA 9

Best Pick Paula's Choice Resist BHA 9

I had to make a little huge leap of faith in order to start using anything from Paula’s Choice. I have never cared for Paula Begoun. I have lots of gripes with the self-proclaimed “cosmetic cop” — her snarky attitude, hypocrisy, inconsistent stance, one-dimensional approach… I can fill a small novel. It took some persuading to get me to try a few of things from her line.

My opinion on her haven’t changed one bit, but credit where credit’s due, her BHA products are excellent. No frills, straightforward potent BHAs in the correct pH range are hard to find, and she offers not one but a whole range of them!

Resist BHA 9 is a 9% BHA treatment. After cleansing or as the last-step of your skincare routine, the targeted serum is applied over “stubborn imperfections” at night only. This intensive dose of BHA is supposed to fight bumps, spots, redness, and wrinkles. Do you know, I tried 2 trial vials of it a few months ago and I’m so in awe of the results that I bought the full size bottle?

To be honest, my skin is generally in good condition. I don’t have fine lines, wrinkles, or acne. My skin isn’t sensitive, in fact, it’s very resilient. I treat spots a bit like I’d treat pests — attack them early before they can spread, and use as many killer ingredients on them as I can find. I use Resist BHA 9 solely as a blemish spot treatment. It spreads and slips across the skin easily — you only need a tiny fraction of a pump. Despite its potency (9%!), it doesn’t sting, irritate, or dry my skin out at all. In fact, it feels no different to the 2% BHA Liquid which you use all-over. I’d be interested to see what non-resilient-skinned people had to say about it. NOTE: the pump, you only need a tiny amount but it’s next to impossible to control how much product you’re pumping out. Pictured below is one pump amount. That’s a third of the 0.03 oz trial size vial — more than enough to completely rid whatever spot I may have!

It pretty much clears up my spots overnight, after everything else in my beauty drawers had struggled miserably. The spot treatment doesn’t actually feel potent despite it’s 9% BHA, but I’ve always use some form of leave-on BHA exfoliant so I know that the Resist BHA 9 is having its own effect. I attack spots and their leftover marks with a one-two punch by also using a vitamin C serum.

For those who have been looking for a great potent blemish spot treatment, this could be your answer. It’s not cheap — US$40 for 0.3 oz — but you only need a tiny amount each time. The sample vial is US$5. You can also get US$10 off first order over US$15 — no code necessary, it gets added automatically using the link HERE.
