The original FOREO LUNA was a standard part of my facial routine but I fell out of love with it, for a while. I think it was mostly because it wasn’t compact enough to be travel-friendly and the bristled area was tiny compared to the rest of the device. I spent a good portion of 2016 hopping from one place to another. It just didn’t feel worthy of taking up so much space in my vanity bag. I didn’t want to fork out for the compact LUNA Mini when I had the standard version with all the bells and whistles already.
I have to say the new FOREO LUNA Mini 2 is significantly better than the original. It now comes with longer and softer silicone nodules, 50% larger bristled area, and a new adjustable 8-speed function. It’s position as something of an alternative to the Clarisonic Mia 2 (the mini version of the cleansing facial brush that oscillates like a toothbrush), but it is actually very different. In very good ways. Clarisonic’s drawbacks have been well documented — it’s too harsh, and the brush head is unhygienic and expensive to replace. Some might find it OK, but I rather not cleanse my face like I would my teeth or my toilet bowl.
You can see the cleansing device has little rounded nodules all over a good half of it. When you turn the device on and gently glide it over your skin (using a face wash), the nodules oscillate all the impurities off the skin without feeling your face is going to fall off. It’s totally non-abrasive and with the new adjustable intensity function, you can find a setting that suits just about every skin type. With the right use, i.e. letting the device do all the work by slowly and gently glide it over the face (don’t massage!), the FOREO LUNA Mini 2 is unbeatable in terms of getting a deep-down cleanse and exfoliation going without aggravating skin. For me, it’s now a standard part of my facial cleansing routine (when I’m not using any chemical exfoliants). First remove makeup with a cleansing oil and then cleanse with a cleansing foam using the FOREO LUNA Mini 2. I get super clear, clean, smooth skin that isn’t irritated in the slightest.
At US$139, it’s expensive, but not shockingly so — and to put it into perspective, the Clarisonic Mia 2 is US$169 and the brush head (US$27) should be replaced every 3 months (like you would a toothbrush)! One charge lasts for absolute ages so no need to lug a charger about with you. It’s also hygienic and nothing will ever need replacing on this.
