I initially dismissed the 50 Megumi Morning UV Protection Cream as “not for me” as it is aimed at drier, mature skin over 50. But this is a brilliant day cream that works perfectly for my normal-slightly dry skin. It’s a comprehensive all-rounder that is packed full of antioxidants and moisturising ingredients that would put many “anti-ageing” creams to shame.
Daily sun protection really is key for keeping the skin looking youthful and this daytime moisturiser with zinc oxide based SPF50+ PA++++ (PPD 16+) protection is more than adequate for a typical day. Added CoEnzyme Q10, hyaluronic acid, collagen (3 types), amino acids (8 of them!), squalane, vitamin C (2 types), vitamin E, and a truckload of oriental herbal extracts help further protect the skin from environmental stresses.
I think this cream could easily be misconstrued — any hint of the words “mature” and “dry” and I instantly think that something will be very heavy and rich. This isn’t. Don’t get me wrong, it’s certainly not suitable for breakout-prone or oily skin, but it manages to be light and fast-absorbing with no greasy residue whilst having enough “oomph” to nourish dry skin. It also does a great job at prepping drier, tired skin before makeup application. Evenly smooth it on — don’t massage it in like you would do with other face creams (you’ll make the sun protection significantly less effective) — about 10 minutes before you start putting on your base makeup and it seems to create a smooth, very plumped-up base.
You can apply this over your usual moisturiser as a sunscreen, but this is a face cream with added sun protection (not a regular sunscreen) — unless you have skin as dry as the Sahara, I feel it works best with very minimal skincare products underneath.
You can find 50 Megumi Morning UV Protection Cream on Amazon Japan — it’s ¥936 for 90ml which I think is an excellent price!
