Japan’s largest cosmetics and beauty website, @cosme, has revealed the results of the @cosme The Best Cosmetics Awards 2022 on December 8th, 2022.
The ranking showcases the highest-ranked products of the last 12 months. The winners are determined mathematically based on the average number of reviews and points left by users from November 1, 2021, to October 31st, 2022. 1,227,889 reviews and 53,537 products were taken into consideration.
The website has a very powerful position in the market so beauty brands place great importance on the results. These awards are determined mathematically based on data collected but contrary to popular belief, they aren’t entirely unbiased.
Major brands give @cosme hundreds (sometimes thousands) of free products each month to give away to users in exchange for written reviews on the website. Products that garnered the most user reviews and received the highest overall ratings will win. Nevertheless, they’re still widely considered one of the most reliable representations of consumer trends in Japan due to their unmatched ability to influence women’s decisions to purchase specific products.
