I have amassed a sizeable collection of foundations and BB creams — lovely formulas with beautiful finishes, but many are unusable as they’re just too pink for my skin with yellow undertone. (Why so many Korean companies insist on making one-shade-fits-nobody, very pink-toned BB creams when most East Asians have yellow skintone?! The mind boggles.) The Make Up For Ever Chromatic Mix is a recent discovery and it’s just the best thing since sliced bread. It’s a concentrated liquid pigment that you mix with your makeup to adjust the colour so that you have a perfect shade match.
The Chromatic Mix comes two formulas — Water Base for water-based foundations and Oil Base for oil-based — and six colours. You can choose whichever one that best suits your needs. I use 2 Yellow in Water Base. A little goes a long way, so start with a tiny amount and add more if you feel the shade is still not right. It’s probably good to use mixing palette, if you felt so inclined — it’s more effective and cleaner — but I just use the back of my hand. The liquid pigment adjusts the shade without altering the way foundation sits on the skin. If you have foundations or BB creams that are off by a couple of shades, this wouldn’t be practical. This is best suited for slight tweaks only.
Make Up For Ever’s Chromatic Mix might be the next best thing to a perfect shade match. If you’re like me and find yourself with a growing collection of beautiful foundations and BB creams that are slightly off for your skin, this easy-to-use liquid pigment is handy to have around. I got mine from SEPHORA HERE — it’s US$14 or CAD$17 for 13ml.
