I didn’t like Mommy! UV Mild Gel SPF30 PA+++ when I first tested it back in late spring, if truth be known. Partly because it didn’t absorb as quickly as my trusty Nivea Sun Protect Water Gel SPF33 PA+++ or the old 2011 formula of the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence. I tested it once or twice and put it away. With them having the same level of UVA protection (and same UV filters used), its baby-safe, to-the-point formula just didn’t hold any sway when my skin is far from sensitive.
Anyway, fast-forward to early winter and it has now become one of my favourite easy-on, easy-off daily sunscreens! Surprisingly, its texture and finish is very similar to Nivea Sun Protect Water Gel SPF33 PA+++ (do see my best pick review of it here!). The gel has the same lightweight invisible finish, except it’s alcohol-free, silicone-free, and has a slightly moisturising feel — something my combination-dry winter skin appreciates. It takes a bit longer to absorb completely into the skin, but once it does, it disappears straight into the skin and doesn’t have any of the kind of residue or slip that gives you that silicone-y smooth feel.
The sunscreen is a bit of a two-in-one because it is formulated with babies and squirmy kids, and adults in mind — so nice and convenient for busy mums. It gives the skin undetectable UV protection that layers well under whatever makeup you want to use over. It’s an excellent choice for people who wants a “winter-friendly” version of the Nivea gel and the Biore essence and also for those just looking for a good lightweight everyday-use sunscreen that’s alcohol-free.
