This post on SANA Pore Putty Makeup Base is long overdue! I started this post a few months ago and it sat in the “To Be Posted” folder completely forgotten until now. Better late than never, right?
This product was advertised and plugged like crazy in Japan when it was launched in 2006. It was regularly touted in Japan as the best drugstore makeup base by makeup artists and fashion/beauty magazine editors for quite a while… “was” being the operative word here.
I think this makeup base is only regarded as a good product outside of Japan. SANA Pore Putty Makeup Base is actually one of the worst-rated (in fact, I think it is the worst) makeup base on @Cosme with total average points of only 1.9 out of 7 (basing on 1,578 reviews at the time of writing)! That’s pretty darn bad, don’t you think?
Like a lot of Japanese makeup bases, SANA Pore Putty Makeup Base promises to give smooth, evenly toned, pore-less skin and it claims to help makeup lasts longer. My skin is far from perfect but it is generally pretty good and it feels pretty normal so it’s quite something when a makeup base makes my skin look horrible.
Close your eyes and imagine this: You’re running around in a hot, humid, polluted, overpopulated city and you just spend your entire day going in and out of the buildings with their A/C on full blast — switching between hot/humid and freezing cold/dry. It’s the end of the day and your face feels dirty (although your skin doesn’t look dirty) and your skin is looking dry and flaky yet still feel oily at the same time. Your skin looks like it got quite a beating from the pollution, unbearable weather, and Arctic-like A/C. How is this even relevant? Well… this was how my skin felt and looked with SANA Pore Putty Makeup Base on.
It was like applying a light yellow-beige putty and it felt that way on the skin too. It’s quite impossible to apply a very light, even amount all over the skin. My skin didn’t look smoother, pore-less, nor more evenly toned… just dirty (not literally) and tired-looking.
